Definition

Areas designated and publicly notified particularly for the conservation of the living environment, landscapes and watershed, the prevention of disasters, and the conservation and enrichment of forest genetic resources

Living Environment Conservation Zones

  • Legal basis : Grounds for designation: Article 7 of the Forest Protection Act
  • Definition : Areas surrounding a city, an industrial complex, a major hospital or a sanatorium that are deemed necessary to designate for the conservation and maintenance of the living environment of such facilities and for public health and sanitation

Landscape Conservation Zones

  • Legal basis : Grounds for designation: Article 7 of the Forest Protection Act
  • Definition : Areas surrounding a scenic spot, a historical site, a tourist attraction, a park or an amusement park, or access roads to such a place or areas surrounding a road, a railroad, or a beach that are deemed necessary to designate for the conservation of the landscape

Watershed Conservation Zones

  • Legal basis : Grounds for designation: Article 7 of the Forest Protection Act
  • Definition : Areas that are deemed necessary to designate for watershed conservation, flood prevention and quality control of drinking water source

Disaster Prevention Conservation Zones

  • Legal basis : Grounds for designation: Article 7 of the Forest Protection Act
  • Definition : Areas that are deemed necessary to designate in order to prevent soil runoff and rockslides and damage from sea wind, tsunami and sand

Forest Genetic Resources Protection Zones

  • Legal basis : Grounds for designation: Article 7 of the Forest Protection Act
  • Definition : Areas that are deemed necessary to designate for the conservation of genes and species of forest plants and forest ecosystems: Provided, that in cases of national parks defined in Article 2, Paragraph 2 of the Natural Parks Act, consultation with a park management agency is required in accordance with Article 4, Paragraph 2 of the said Act.
