Overview

  • Ex-situ conservation institutions : The Ministry of Environment designates “ex-situ conservation institutions” to ensure the systematic conservation and propagation of wildlife species outside their natural habitats, where in-situ conservation is not possible.
  • Legal basis : Article 7 of the Wildlife Protection and Management Act, Article 5 of its Enforcement Decree and Article 6 of its Enforcement Rule
  • Eligible institutions
    • A zoo, botanical garden, or aquarium;
    • A national or public research institute;
    • A business-affiliated research institute under Article 14, Paragraph 1(2) of the Basic Research Promotion and Technology Development Support Act;
    • A school under each subparagraph of Article 2 of the Higher Education Act and its affiliated institution; or
    • Any other institution that the Minister of Environment deems appropriate
