Overview
- Ex-situ conservation institutions : The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries designates “ex-situ conservation institutions” to ensure the systematic conservation and propagation of marine species outside their natural habitat, where in-situ conservation is not possible.
- Legal basis : Article 17 of the Conservation and Management of Marine Ecosystems Act, Article 8 of its Enforcement Decree and Articles 12 and 13 of its Enforcement Rule
- Eligible institutions
- A zoo, botanical garden, or aquarium;
- A national or public research institute;
- A business-affiliated research institute under Article 14, Paragraph 1(2) of the Basic Research Promotion and Technology Development Support Act; or
- A school under each subparagraph of Article 2 of the Higher Education Act and its affiliated institution
