The Korea Forest Service (KFS) participated in the 27th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), held in Panama from October 20, to introduce Korea's international forest cooperation initiatives.
During the side event, the KFS presented examples of capacity building and cooperation with developing countries through the FERI1) launched by Korean government as a follow-up project to the 12th Conference of the Parties (COP12) to the CBD in 2014. The presentation emphasized the importance of global cooperation and participation in enhancing forest biodiversity.
The event was organized by the CPF2), a coalition of 16 international organizations, and featured the sharing of successful forest biodiversity cases and ways to contribute to the conservation, sustainable use, and equitable benefit-sharing of forest biodiversity.
An official from the International Cooperation Division of the KFS noted, "It was meaningful to share Korea's leading efforts and the global consensus on the importance of sustainable forest ecosystem restoration.", and added, "Korea's successful forest restoration achievements have gained international recognition, as evidenced by the inclusion of our national reforestation records in UNESCO Memory of the World in April 2025. Building on this experience, the KFS will continue to contribute to the enhancement of forest biodiversity worldwide."
