Introduction

In the 8th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity ('06.3 Brazil), member countries adopted the strategic plans suggesting to implement the national level Clearing-House Mechanism on biodiversity information by 2010.

In addition, the 9th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity ('08.5 Germany) recommended member countries to build the CHM websites, establish the CHM implementation strategies, organize the Mediation Committee between biodiversity-related institutions and do other things step by step for the construction of the Clearing-House Mechanism on biodiversity information.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment as the National CHM Focal Point shall build the CHM website (CBD-CHM Korea) in order to provide biodiversity-related information (ecosystems, species and biodiversity research, the related biodiversity laws and regulations, main activities, etc.).

The Clearing-House Mechanism on biodiversity information refers to the cooperation system for sharing the biodiversity-related information of a particular country between interested parties (government agencies, research institutes, universities, NGO, etc.) in a broad sense and means the websites for providing comprehensive explanations on the biodiversity-related information of a particular country in a narrow sense.

The CBD-CHM Korea has been established as a part of the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity. It is the website for performing the purpose of sharing the biodiversity information internationally between states as well as sharing between the people of the country.
