Overview

  • Special wildlife protection districts: Areas designated by the Minister of Environment that are especially critical for the conservation and reproduction of endangered wildlife. These areas are established after consulting with stakeholders, including landowners, local government heads, and relevant central administrative agencies.
  • Wildlife protection districts: Areas designated by the Mayor of a city, the Governor of a province (Do), or the head of a district (City/County/District) that need protection for endangered wildlife, similar in purpose to special protection districts but designated at the local level.

What are Wildlife Protection Areas?

  • A colony or breeding site of endangered wildlife that requires special protection
  • A stopover site for endangered wildlife that has high conservation and research value and requires special protection
  • A habitat or range for endangered wildlife where habitat/breeding sites may be degraded or the species may face extinction, thus requiring special protection

  • Legal basis : Article 27 (1) of the Wildlife Protection and Management Act

    Designated by the Minister of Environment to protect habitats for endangered wildlife

Criteria for Designation of Wildlife Protection Districts

  • Legal basis : Article 33 of the Wildlife Protection and Management Act

    Designated by city mayors/provincial governors and the heads of city/county/district to protect endangered wildlife
